Art Resources

A few digital brushes, textures, and software and art supply recommendations. If you ever want a suggestion of what to use for a project, or if you see an asset or brush I'm using that looks interesting, reach out on one of my socials, I'll do my best to give advice and hook you up!

From my personal resource library:

A few things I've made in the past that I use to make art! (click images for full res)

Non-Tileable Textures

two textures I have started to use a lot in my digital work. They aren't tileable currently, but should be large enough to span a good portion of a large drawing. I often change the colors and use them as adjustment layers to add interest to the more flat areas of my work.

Tileable Textures

A few tileable textures that I admittedly don't use as often, though they are more heavily featured in Wake of the Clash Chapter 9

Clip Studio Brushes

I've made some brushes I made in Clip Studio available on the asset page. These include a distance crowd brush, and two effects brushes I use for Wake of the Clash.

Some insights on how I do my work. Not quite tutorials but hopefully somewhat instructive!

Software

A few free and otherwise well-priced softwares for making a variety of different types of art. Adding these in case anyone was looking into giving digital art a try but didn't want to spend too much on software.

Clip Studio

My preferred and most used drawing software. I like the different comic specific tools they have for things like panels and word balloons. If you spring for the more expensive version it adds a few more features that aren't super necessary, but that is something to consider. Perpetual(you pay once) license options available, and goes on sale often.

Fire Alpaca

This used to be my main drawing program before buying Clip on sale! The prologue and... I think the first chapter of Wake were drawn in this software. Its very simple, but still has a decent variety of useful functions including adjustment and effects layers if I recall. If a more complicated drawing software is intimidating to you, this is a good place to start! It's free!!

Krita

krita

A popular free, opensource digital art program that is used by a lot of my peers. I can't vouch for it personally but I like that it has a tile function that makes texture making easy. If only I could get a hang of doing the actual drawing and editing in it...Free and open source!

OpenToonz

Every so often I'll dip back into animation to play around. OpenToonz has a bit of a learning curve, but it has the features I like in an animation software. I find I struggle with keyframing and timeline issues in a lot of non-dedicated programs with an animation feature so it might be handy to have a dedicated program for these types of things. OpenToonz is free and opensource!

Blender

For all you 3d heads out there. A program that holds its own in professional settings against certain wildly expensive alternatives, I've even used it to an extent for certain productions! Every few months I get it in my head that I should buckle down and get an actual mastery of this software... but I like what they're doing being free and open source so I wanted to recommend it as well. Free and open source!

Web dev:

I used these to help make this site! It's tough work but it's made less tough by the many more experienced hands offering help!

neocities

Neocities

This is where THIS website is hosted. And they let you mess around and publish your page for free and everything! Much recommended if you want to try your hand at making a website oldschool style.

I can sort-of read code well enough, but struggle doing anything from scratch. There are lots of handy notations indicating what different lines do in each page if you are like me and need a little hand holding. Many thanks for making this handy template available to comic creators!
